People believe anything they hear without question. That's why new people fall for it.

The playerbase in this game now wants to fastest, easiest way to get rich. If they think they can get someone to actually drop a rare item so they can take it, they will. And honestly, it is as much the victim's fault as it is the scammer in these cases.

Heh, i was selling my Tormented items yesterday and i ran into like 5 of these people...a couple of honourable mentions:

1.
Scammer: Hey i wanna buy torment sword but i wanna make sure it not duped first.
Me: And how do you expect to do that?
Scammer: Come outside with me and i can check.

2:
Scammer: Hey i wtb torment sword but i wanna see skin first
Me: Oh you can get pictures of it on guild wiki, would you like a direct link?
Scammer: Silence *maps out*

Because most people don't bother checking our possible scams. A lot of people don't bother checking fansites and wikis, especially if they're casual gamers...

Then again some of those are just plain stupid, no way around it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the this drop item function in particular that would help reduce the number of scams?

For example, and I'm just fielding some ideas for general consideration:

* A pop up notification, asking players if they really want to drop their item(s)
* Change it so that players must give explicit permission for another player to pick up their dropped item, and display a pop up notification asking the player whether they want to allow another player to pick up their dropped item(s).
* A timer which would prevent another player from picking up dropped item(s) until time ran out
* Remove the drop item feature altogether (very drastic)
* Something else?

How about something that says 'Always use the Trade Window to Trade'? A notification that tells players that the trade window is higly unlikely to 'break' and it's possibly a scam.

Removing the Drop feature would be bad a change to me, I often end with just... stuff filling my inventory when I'm farming, vanq'ing or in a dungeon, I need to shift this 'stuff' to get better 'stuff' into my inventory (I travel with a fair amount of stuff as it is, don't really have the storage space for it).

Either of these two would eliminate the player from having "X" item taken, but will not relieve the general stupidity of actually trying to drop the item in the first place...

People are retarded.

Things such as this should not be messed with as it's the scammed person's fault in the first place for falling for things like this.

Scammers always have a backup, they run through the portal while the item remains on the ground, so the owner of the item would still lose it.

1. Removing the entire "drop system" would eliminate the entire scamming problem.

2. A window popping up giving you 2 options.
O Do you wish to drop this item so any player can pick it up?
O Do you wish to drop this item so only you can pick it up?

If the scammer runs through the portal you should be able to retrieve the item through a handy dandy box popping up.

3. You can't drop any items as long as there is any other player in your party.
You can however drop items if you're all alone, or with heroes/henches.

I had one asswipe actually say: "Can I see the skin before I buy it?".... "Just trade it to me and then I can see what it looks like."

I don't think i've ever laughed so hard b4.... needless to say I just told him that I'll report him for scamming. Then he replies "What is scamming." He was so innocence! poor guy.

People are gullible (I won't say stupid since only 99% of them are) and greedy. End of story.

Someone actually tried to pull it on me a while ago. I was buying a Victo's Bulwark (back when they were semi-expensive). He repeatedly cancelled the trade, saying stuff like "omg wtf is wrong??". He even logged out and back in to try to "fix" it. And then he said it. "I know, we can go outside. You drop the cash, then I'll drop the shield. Problem solved." I added him to ignore and moved on.

Just make it so that items you drop are reserved for you. Simple.

Or this one:

Maybe not quite as simple to implement though?

This would be wonderful. Since we can't prevent stupidity/naiveness or innocence, this would pretty much nullify this scam. Lazy people will just have to get over it.

You cant remover the drop item feature altogether - sharing a rez scroll or salvage kit on a long run would no longer be possible

A lot of the posters here make me shake my head. The number of people who seem to simply write off someone as a "noob" or "idiot" and lol at them as opposed to getting pissed at the scammers. TY once again for perpetuating the elitist attitude the these forums are so well know for.

And why can't you use the trade window to do this?
